Microdermabrasion at Laser Infinite Beauty is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment that offers safer and controlled skin abrasion. This procedure utilizes micro crystals of high medical grade, which are dispersed onto the surface of the skin to abrade the skin's tissue mildly. The exfoliated skin and used crystals are vacuumed into a sealed waste container, which is then disposed of.

How Does Microdermabrasion Work?

Your skin is composed of two main layers. The epidermis is the outermost layer, composed primarily of dead skin cells atop a layer of maturing cells. Below this lies the stratum corneum, and as your topmost skin layer, serves as a barrier between the world and the rest of your skin.

It’s within the stratum corneum where you’ll find many skin imperfections, including fine lines and blemishes. Microdermabrasion serves to break up the stratum corneum, causing your body to replace damaged skin cells with new ones. This stimulates an increase in oxygen production as well, and shortly after a treatment, you’ll be treated to smoother skin and a reduction in sun damage, fine lines, and blemishes.

Some studies have found that repeated sessions can even stimulate growth in lower skin layers, increasing the likelihood that more serious damage will be repaired over time.

What is Treatment Like?

The skin will first be cleansed and toned, then treated. The Microdermabrasion treatment is done in one to three passes over the treated area. There is a mild tingly sensation from the exfoliation of the crystals and the suction of the vacuum, but that is to be expected.

The treatment will end with the removal of the crystals, and once that is completed, an application of a moisturizing masque and sunblock will be applied. Due to the broken-up stratum corneum, moisturizer will penetrate the lower skin levels, providing increased effectiveness in non-microdermbraded layers.

The skin may turn pink for about 1-24 hours following the treatment. Some patients may experience a light peeling after more aggressive treatments. This is a non-surgical procedure that does not require the use of anesthetic and very little to no downtime.
